VSTi stands for Virtual Studio Technology instruments. VSTi is at the heart of our music production. Over the last few years the quality of these instruments has improved dramatically and the price has also reduced. This means that although not cheap, they are more affordable by today's computer musicians, but getting the desired results is more difficult. A knowledge of arranging is extremely important and also the ability to play these instruments from a keyboard or other MIDI controller. It is possible to have a virtual orchestra at your fingertips that really sounds like an orchestra so long as you know what to play, when to play and which instrument plays which part. Indeed, many big film music producers now use VSTi technology to keep costs down in a world of tighter budgets and time saving.
